Screwdriver

I am loving this scheduled post thing. Between breakfast and stumbling through coffee and getting up and down 50 times to get juice and wipe faces and find the remote and change a diaper and on and on and on… This really rocks my socks.

ANYWAY! It’s a pattern! Yay pattern! I mentioned something about a screwdriver (sadly not the kind with vodka) and here it is! This is a quickie, but it’s intended to be the first part of a set. This is just the right size for little hands.

Materials:
  • worsted weight light gray, red, royal blue
  • skewer
  • stuffing
  • hot glue gun

You don’t need to put the skewer in, you can use a stuffing tool and stuff the crap out of the screwdriver shaft but it’ll still be a little floppy.

Handle
1) ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with sl st (6)
2) ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, join with sl st (12)
3) ch 1, *sc, 2 sc in next sc* around, join with sl st (18)
4) ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with sl st (18)
5) switch to red, ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with sl st (18)
6-13) switch to blue, ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with sl st (18)
14) switch to red, ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with sl st (18)
15) switch to blue, ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with sl st (18)
16) ch 1, *sc, dec over 2 sc* around, join with sl st (12)
stuff
17) ch 1, dec over 2 sc around, join with sl st (6)
break yarn, finish off, do not sew closed

Shaft
1) attach to row 17 of handle with sc, sc in each sc around, join with sl st (6)
2-17) ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with sl st (6)
break yarn, finish of, do not sew closed

Assembly
Measure and cut skewer so it will fit inside. I inserted the skewer into the shaft, took a mechanical pencil and drew a small line on the skewer two rows down from the end, then took it back out and cut to the line. Glue a small amount of batting around the end of the trimmed skewer. Insert into screwdriver shaft. Sew closed. If you press end flat and sew closed flat, you will have a flathead screwdriver. If you sew closed as a circle and draw it closed, you will have a Phillips head screwdriver.
