Stethoscope

Or as my daughter calls it, “Doctors.” I promised her I would make her some “doctors” after I found her trying to put the end of the cords to our living room blinds in her ears. We’ve seen a lot of actual doctors lately for my son, and I think she likes them as long as they’re not going to examine her. Please excuse my terminology, I’m sure there are proper names for each part of the stethoscope, but I have no idea what those would be.

Materials:

• worsted weight fuschia, gray, white
• G-sized crochet hook
• glue gun, optional

I tried these in black and I hard a really hard time differentiating between the stitches on what is now pink. I blocked my Earpiece “Wires” by simply by wetting them and pinning them flat to dry.

There are 1001 ways to ch 6 in a ring, and most people have a method they prefer. Feel free to ch 6 in a ring however makes you happy for the circular pieces (the scope top and bottom) BUT the rest of the pattern needs to be followed as written. The ear buds and earpiece cord are meant to be tubes open at both ends, and the bottom cord is meant to be closed on row 1.

I glued mine together, but it would be very possible to sew for those of you who don’t like glue.

Bottom cord
1) ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with sl st (6)
2-35) ch 1, sc in each sc, join with sl st (6)
36) ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, join with sl st (12)
37) ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with sl st (12)
break yarn, finish off

Earpiece cord

Crosspiece

Ear Buds (make 2)
1) ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with sl st (6)

break yarn, finish off

Earpiece “Wire” (make 2)
1) ch 37, sc in 2nd ch from hook to end (36)
break yarn, finish off

Scope Top
1) ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with sl st (6)
2) ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, join with sl st (12)
3) ch 1, *sc, 2 sc in next sc* around, join with sl st (18)
4) ch 1, *sc2, 2 sc in next sc* around, join with sl st (24)
break yarn, finish off

Scope Middle
1) ch 12, join with sl st to form ring, sc in each ch around, join with sl st (12)
2) ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with sl st (12)
break yarn, finish off

Scope Bottom
1) ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with sl st (6)
2) ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, join with sl st (12)

Assembly
Attach crosspiece to earpiece cord as shown. Attach open part of bottom cord to the bottom bend on earpiece cord. Attach scope top and scope bottom to either side of scope middle, then attach to bottom of bottom cord. Insert earpiece “wire” into earpiece cord on one side and ear bud on the other and attach. Repeat for other side.
