This isn’t super exciting enough to be a Tuesday update, but I made some playdough today and I wanted to share.

2 cups flour
2 cups hot water
1 cup salt
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tbs sugarfree juice crystals for each colour- keep in mind that the juice crystals will give a more subtle colour than if you use food colouring.

Mix water, flour, salt and vegetable oil together in a pot. Heat over low heat and stir until it pulls away from the side and clumps in the middle. It should be cool enough to check the consistency by touching it. It should be dry and not sticky, just like Play-Doh. If it is sticky, just keep stirring it on the stove until it reaches the right consistency.

When it’s cool enough, turn it out onto a clean surface and knead until smooth. Divide into 4 balls. To mix the colour in, flatten a ball into a disc and put about half of the tablespoon of juice crystals in the middle. Fold it in half, flatten it, then fold it the other way until the colour is mixed in. If you want the colour darker, add the other half of juice crystals and remix.

If it dries a little, you can add a little bit of water and remix. If (like what happened to me) it gets too wet, you can reheat it and stir until it’s the right consistency again.

Store in airtight containers.
